Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
The front wheels on our 1992 G9 Yamaha lean terribly inward. Is this normal? How can I correct this where the tires are more vertically aligned?
Thanks jph |

A little positive camber is good, but yours looks a little much. First thing is check the toe-in. (tires should be turned into each other about 1/8" \ / looking down from the ceiling.)
Get that setting and it may clear most of that up. |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
That is described as "positive camber". First, check the king pins if worn out and/or loose relative to the upper hole. Replace the king pin and/or put a bushing (plastic or metal and you can buy them from the sponsors) to keep a tight fit.
The front shocks are a little long. Relocate the upper mounting hole inwards by drilling new holes. This will reduce or eliminate the positive camber. |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
The A-arms look relatively horizontal so it doesn't look like a long shock issue.
Has anyone done any front end work on it recently? The reason I ask is it almost looks as though they have the spindles mounted on the wrong sides. To do this they would have to first be swapped from one side to the other but then flipped upside down so the steering arm would reconnect to the tierod thus giving the end result you have now. Any chance someone put kingpins/bushings in it? |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
I too suspected the shocks but the part numbers are correct and the length is 11 inches long; but Crash, your spindle thought is so out-of-the box!!! Anything is possible - I have recently purchased this cart as a restore project.
I will look for tool marks and maybe there are part numbers on the knuckles. |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
I pride myself on thinking with an open mind,
I suggest this because the spindle axle shafts are not at a right angle to the spindle pivot hole for the kingpin (like 5 degrees) so if they were mistakenly swapped when being reassembled you would wind up with just what you have. |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
I am certainly no expert on anything golf cart related... But, my cart does the same thing when I run it on pavement and seems to fix itself when off road. I do not know the physics of it all, but it doesn't seem to be a big deal with mine. Is there any change when driving on a different surface?

Quote:
When on pavement/concrete a bad alignment is more noticable. If driving forward on pav/conc, and your tires pull in like his picture do a test, back up and see if they lay out the other way or straighten up. If they do you have to much "toe in" in your adjustment, Get your steering wheel straight and adjust your tierods so you have 1/8" toe in and it should correct itself on all surfaces. Are you familiar with how to adjust for it? |

Re: Wheels lean inward .. Chamber Issue?
I am thinking the spindles are correct. I can not find a part number; but the pins are located on the top - figure these would be on the bottom if the spindles were not on the correct side.
Well, I did the backup test and the tires straighten up. How do I properly adjust the toe-in alignment? I am not familiar with front end work. many thanks!! |

Swap the position of the spindles.
