Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
If I have voltage at my motor everywhere doesn't that mean I need to start troubleshooting the motor? Could the F/R switch be bad if there is voltage at the motor?
Also, I am really lost on how these work. Why do I have voltage on all posts of the motor and why do I have full voltage after 3 clicks from the solenoids whether in forward or reverse. |

Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
Thanks TDAWG. I didn't notice your post before my last post.
I ohmed the motor. A1-S2=OL A1-A2=1 OHM A1-S1=OL S2-S1=OL S2-A2=OL A2-S1=OL Also, my dad had this motor re-build a few years ago but I don't know what all was done to it. |

Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
To test the motor:
Jumped A2 to S1 together. Connected the 36 V positive to S2 and negative to A1. Motor did not turn. Can I take it to any motor company or should I take it to a golf cart guy? |

Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
Ok just to be sure lets do a motor test. The motor test for a series motor is fairly simple. Disconnect all 4 cables from motor. Lable them to be sure they go back in the right spot. Connect a jumper cable from A1 to S1. Apply 12 volts to the remaining 2 terminals. If motor spins, it is most likely good. You can apply 12 volts to the remaining terminals via jumper cables to an external battery or use 2 of your existing batteries. Back wheels need to be off the ground in case motor is good.

I did not see your last post before I posted. Looks like you may have a motor problem. You can try it my way just to be sure if you would like.

Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
Apparently I have a J Core motor and it can’t be rebuilt. Hopefully it is just the brushes or the posts are burned/disconnected. TDawg, you are pretty close to me, do you do any motor work?
Again, thanks to everyone for the help and directions. |

Re: 87 36v clubcar no go
Other than brushes or bearing, I send them off to be redone. If it turns out to be brushes or broken post, I am sure you could handle that yourself. Once you get the motor apart, it will probably be apparant what the problem is.

Other than visual, how can I tell if the brushes are bad?
