Some Kudos for ScottyB
I bought a set of AWG 2 cables with soldered on lugs from Carts Unlimited for my 2008 TXT PDS, but haven't gotten around to installing them yet and being a Techno-Geek with OCD tendencies, I checked them out with a NIST Traceable Electrical Safety Analyzer that measures milliohms.
Since the intrinsic resistance of AWG 2 cable is only .000156 Ohms/foot, I didn't expect to see much of a reading, but with 2 solder joints on each cable, I expected to find 1 or 2 milliohms, which would be acceptable. Since I didn't find any measurable resistance (or at least less than the 0.5 milliohm minimum detectable by the test equipment I used) on any of the 10 cables, and having been through NASA's Soldering School, I must compliment ScottyB for his excellent silver soldering. Well done ScottyB, John |

Re: Some Kudos for ScottyB
Thank you Sir! You made me nervous with all that techno-talk but I guess I did okay
I have learned to read temperature of the copper by color after much testing with the infrared temperature gun. I have been practicing soldering copper for over 30 yrs. I use only the highest quality copper wire, lugs, paste, and solder which has kept my cost up a bit. One post like that from one of you NASA Guys makes it worth it Would you mind if I copy and pasted that post to my website? |

Re: Some Kudos for ScottyB
Go ahead and post it.
A little correction though. I never was a NASA guy, but I was a NSA guy (USAF Intel) when I went to the NASA soldering school back in 1972. Your comments about using quality materials and pricing reminded me of an old saying. If you want good fresh oats, you gotta pay the price. If you don't mind if they've been through the horse, they come cheaper. I prefer fresh oats. John |
