Default quick question

i have a 91 36v club car with a few questions. I just got it taken apart and the old owner said all it needed was new batteries. Before I go and buy 36v batteries I wanted to make sure the rest of the cart works because if not I might just do the 48v conversion. So the question is how can you test the cart when the batteries are out, is it possible to hook a car jumper box up to the motor for a second just to see if it does anything or will this mess something up? Also I know its a 36v cart but is the motor 6v or 36v? Might be dumb questions I just dont wanna cost myself anymore money than I have to. Thanks guys.
