XCT48400 Controller settings for smooth acceleration?

Just curious, but given how much better the XCT can blend all of the settings, Has anyone ever tried using/configuring the XCT as a Torque Controller instead of a Speed Controller?

I mounted my temperature probe with a piece of rubber over it and a tie wrap going between the armature terminals. This holds the temperature sensitive part of the probe against the motor case. I did not want to mod the motor or I would have drilled a hole and glued it to the case with RTV.

I do controller design for a living so I have a pretty good idea how the proportional throttle control probably works. In general, you always want to use the maximum proportional range which is why I set my Max RPM to give me the usable Max MPH that I want. That uses the whole throttle range from zero to max. (If you set the max RPM way higher than you can actually get even if that is ok for the motor, the control is trying to get that max RPM at full throttle.

I contacted Alltrax and when I get back down to the coast over Memorial weekend I am going to run the cart under various conditions. During this run I am going to record "monitor" all the data from the controller and email it back to Alltrax. Their initial thought about the jerkiness was that the MCOR is bad or the speed sensor is bad. So by recording all the data over many different throttle ranges and speeds they will be able to get a handle on my acceleration jerkiness problem.

The question of where the temp probe is, is I do not know at present. It was mounted by the people that put the cart together for "street legal purpose" here in NC. When I bought the cart it had the standard Curtis controller and motor. They left the Curtis controller and changed it to code 4 and installed an Admiral MOT-A2 motor. With that setup the top speed I could get was 23.5 mph. Ordinarily that should be fine, but I wanted to be able to get at least 25 and preferably 27-29 mph. So I read a lot and bought the XCT48400 controller and HD solenoid as an upgrade and installed them myself. As I have stated previously I am Very happy with this setup and speed that I can now get, just need to tweak out the jerkiness. When I get back to the coast I will check the motor and find out where the probe is mounted.

I have the max rpm set 6500 rpm. This rpm is NOT "way higher" than what the motor can achieve. As I mentioned before the calculated speed at 6500 rpm is 31.4 mph and I can reach that speed. In fact I have set the max rpm up to 7000 rpm and was able to go through the 31 mph and start approaching the calculated max of 33.9 mph. But, I slowed down and changed the controller back to 6500 rpm. 30 mph and higher is just a bit to fast on a golf cart on the road with other cars around IMO.

So presently on my cart at 6500 (max rpm setting) I am using the Max RPM that the motor CAN achieve. Therefore, I am using the whole throttle range from zero to max, which is the max proportional range for my throttle and motor. So that should not be a consequence of why I am experiencing the throttle jerkiness during acceleration.

No it should not if you really use all the way to 6500.

Maybe we can't see the forest for the trees. Back to basics, have you tried pumping the throttle 25-30 times to see if the problem clears?

ScottyB I tried your curve and I thing I like it better than the linear throttle.

As I stated earlier, I will be back to the beach to make monitor files of data from my XCT 48400 to send to Alltrax for analysis. At that point I will post the data showing rpm at max throttle. That should end the question if my cart setup is "really" making the max rpm that the speed calculation indicates.
