96 CC Not charging Please help quickly
I friend just called me about his 96 CC. He tells me it's not charging and it's jumpy in forward. He thinks the charger is a Powerwise 3. He says it's a 48v cart and doesn't have a volt meter to check the pack. Another words I have to take a 1 hour drive to try to fix it. I'm good with EZGO but have NO experience with CC. Are they like the EZGO? If the battery pack voltage is to low the charger won't come on?? If so; how do I get the batteries up to a level that I can get the charger to work. Famous last words; "It work last year when I put it away" Thanks for any advice. Jim

Re: 96 CC Not charging Please help quickly
a 96 48 volt...the easiest thing is to see if his charger works on another cart and if so replace the OBC..........it should have a red dash battery light which means its the old style OBC and they fail often...........if its a non reagan cart it will have 1 solenoid if so take a 4 ft peice of 14 gage wire with alligator clips and cliup one end to the small post on the solenoid where the yellow wire is bolted and clip the other end to the neg. terminal of #6 battery ........rear batery on drivers side if cart runs replace the OBC.,.........like i said 96 are famus for OBC going out................also when you lift the seat on the rear side of charge receptical theres a grey wire with a yellow fuse holder give that wire a pull to see if it comes out of the receptical................when you buy the new OBC get it from C.C. so you get the upgrade kit that comes with it, but i,ll bet the house if his charger works on another cart than his cart has a bad OBC and thats not uncommon al all, if its a reagan cart it will have 2 solenoids and a rocker switch instead of a lever style F&R handle............................................ ..

Quote:
Bring a 12v car charger with you, and charge them individualy for maybe 10 to 15 minutes each to see if it brings them back up for the charger to kick in! (Or, have your buddy do it BEFORE you go!) It might be low voltage... If not.... what Tom said! |

lockman, sometimes i assume things and i shouldn,t but i figured since he knew about E-Z,s that they might have eliminated low battery voltage..............if that is the case they can open the charger and bypass the low voltage sensor and if cart charges than let charge for 5 hours or so and than redo charger and plug in......if charger works than bingo your done but if you bypass and it dosn,t work than OBC but sometimes we just shouldn,t assume ( me that is ) you bring up a good basic starting point.......which i neglected.......................................

I didn't mean to step on your toes Tom!
I figured it was his buddies cart and before he drives an hour, to have his buddy give it a try! (guessing if his buddy dosen't have a V meter... he probably didn't keep the charger plugged in either!) This spring, I had the opportunity to try that on my ex's cart... 5 year old batt's and the 16v to 12v voltage reducer drained 2 of the batt's (I had a V meter... so I only had to charge 2!) Since then, the cart has been on "It's" charger, and doing well!! (she's too cheap to spring for new batt's!... again!) |

Re: 96 CC Not charging Please help quickly
I'd be interested in how this turns out, keep us posted.
I've driven a hour and 45 min to my father in law just for a bad ground wire. He's kinda disabled and depends alot on his so it didn't hurt that much. |

Re: 96 CC Not charging Please help quickly
Thanks again folks. BAD batteries; and when I say bad I mean BAD. Not one of them had a voltage of over 2.1 volts. Total battery pack was only 10.3volts. I can't believe it would actually try to move. I guess my friend took the earful of sh!t that I gave him last night because he had 6 new Energizers (and a 6 pack of frosties) sitting there waiting for me to install. He learned The importance of battery maintence the same way I did $$$$$$$. Thanks again folks and that is why this is the #1 golf cart forum. Jim
