Torque spring issues!!
ok I installed my torque spring and on the description it said it would not effect top speed put it on and it slowed my cart way down it will climb just about anything which is awesome! but I still need my speed on the directions it says to remove a clip but I did not see this clip...did I miss something? and if so would it have this reaction?

Re: Torque spring issues!!
The clip should have been behind #6 in this diagram http://www.tntgolfcar.com/yamparts.php?diagramid=642 and the spacer in the power kit will replace the clip.

Re: Torque spring issues!!
So would that cause the clutch not to open all the way and make me lose top speed? my belt was really hot when I got back from my ride around the block. Yesterday was a bad day as it was !! then this!

Re: Torque spring issues!!
The heat would come from the belt slipping or being too tight. That might sound like a duh answer, but I would think the clutch is being put in a bind somewhere. I would start with breaking it back down and looking for that clip. Mine does around 30mph according to gps. I also have the speed spring installed, but that would not help your situation.

Re: Torque spring issues!!
The factory spec for top speed on a stock G1 with the governor properly adjusted is 12 MPH @ 2700 RPM. Can't have these 80-yr old duffers losing it and running over things on the links, you know. If you were getting 18, that is a 50% increase, not bad. The torque spring kit lowered the top speed on my buggy a bit also. I was planning on experimenting a bit to find a happy balance, but have not gotten to it. I was going to reinstall the stock spring with the spacer from the kit and see how that worked .
On yours, make sure you removed that snap ring. The snap ring plus the spacer would definitely over tension the spring and keep you from hitting top gear. Let us know how you make out. |
