Resistor On 48V Solenoid-Necessary?
On my 48V cart's solenoid, there are 2 small resistors...1 large one going from the 2 large posts, and a smaller one going across the 2 smaller posts. They got VERY hot last summer and the cart hasn't been running since-my question is can these 'blow' and therefore cripple your cart? Where can I get the exact replacement for these? Thanks!
Doc ps...cart is an '00 48V Carryall. |

Re: Resistor On 48V Solenoid-Necessary?
They are a diode and resistor the diode (Small) can fry and short out the activation circuit. The resistor is a protective device to prevent fly back voltage from reaching the controller use Exact replacements when possible.

Any radio shack or electronics shop may be able to match you up if you bring the old part in..... Every golf cart shop will carry them.....

Re: Resistor On 48V Solenoid-Necessary?
PS: just so you know the Diode can only be connected in one direction (pay attention to the silver ring on 1 end) the resistor can go either way !

Re: Resistor On 48V Solenoid-Necessary?
As I understnd it, the diode is for coil suppression to protect the microswitch that actuates it , and the resistor (250 ohm/5w) is to precharge the capacitors in the controllers internal filters to prevent high inrush current when the contacts close thus extending their life.
