Re: Fuel pump
Have you done a compression test to verify the seals
are good? |

Re: Fuel pump
In reference to my previous thread http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-g...uel-pumps.html I have used this type of pump on several types of small engines with excellent results! I have not tried this on a golf cart, though. I see no reason it wouldn't work well. The trick to these is to mount it as low as possible. They don't like to have to draw fuel. these pumps are available at most auto parts stores for around $40-50. You would want a low pressure one that puts out 4½ lbs or so.

Re: Fuel pump
NO, the condition of the crankshaft oil seals has no effect on the upper cylinder compression. You can have perfect cylinder compression and blown crankshaft seals. Testing the seals involves blocking off all the major leak points (intake and exhaust ports, fuel pump pulse fitting, etc.) and pressurizing the crankcase to find your leaks. Considering the age of these engines, it is pretty much a given that the seals are worn out and leaking. This will not allow the engine to produce a pressure pulse to operate the fuel pump. It more severe cases the engine cannot transfer the fuel from the crankcase to the combustion chamber and will not run.
Replace your crankshaft seals. At 30 years old, they are due for replacement. You only need 1-2 PSI to feed fuel to the carb. 4 PSI may be too much and cause carb flooding if the float, needle and seat can't handle it. Fix your problem and the engine will run as designed without an expensive work-around solution. |
