Cool Good Buy????

A 1996 electric EZgo cart with a seat kit and windshield is being offered on the local craigslist for $500. The add states that it is being offered this cheap because it was running fine with "newer batteries" earlier this summer, but it was kept at a camp ground that flooded during the heavy rains. The water level was up to the seats, and the cart no longer runs.

I am very mechanically inclined, including electrical systems, and realize that there will probably be some major issues with this cart, but it would be my first cart. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how much I will probably have to spend, and what parts will most likely need to be replaced on this cart to get it back to running condition. I will try to include a picture that was posted on the add.

Some things I would be concerned with:

How long did it set under water (up to the seats)
Was the water Salt water or fresh water.
Are all of the batteries shot? (500 to 600 dollars)
Did the rear end get water inside.
Is the controller shot.
Is the motor shot.

Worse case scenario with all shot and needing replacement parts = + or - $1700.00

This is what I would have to prepare myself for with all of the "Unknowns"

Bottom line = offer $100.00

Seeing that the cart "im guessing is in indiana" there would be no salt water damage.

If the motor was shot, it could be rebuilt/refurbished for a fair price.

A rebuilt controler could be installed for a fair price as well if it was damaged.

New batteries are probably the case, it all depends on how high the water level whent.
The ITS box could be full of water and causing issues.

The rear end should have the oil drained, and refilled, but because its fresh water, and if it didnt happen too long ago, you should be ok. Just change the oil right away.

Overall, you might have some issues with micro switches in the future, and should repack the bearings and regrease everything, but the cart with some minor effort can be brought into running shape.
