96 Club Car Throttle Plate
My cart (96 DS 290 engine) started to run full throttle and after checking found the throttle plate was missing. I am sure the thing got swallowed but cart seemed to keep running fine except for the high speed. Do I need to pull off head to check cylinder? Any help will be appreciated,

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
It's not a bad idea!
Sometimes the plate (or halves) gets wedged in the intake, sometimes it gets eaten up, If the plate screws are missing from the throttle shaft, then you absolutely should! |

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
The screws are still in place. How tough is it to remove the head and will I need any special tools? The issue started a couple of days ago and like I mentioned the cart has been running fine except for the full speed issue. I thought the return spring was the issue but should of checked it the day it happened. Cart is used most everyday. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
No, there aren't any special tools to remove it.
(except maybe a torque wrench, and a new head gasket for reinstall) A friends 94 ate up half of a butterfly with the screws intact... he wanted me to just replace the carb, his smoked a little already, and was planning on getting it rebuilt anyway... 054.JPG he ran it for 5 years without pulling the head and new carb before finally rebuilding it. (He never did tell me if they found it in the intake, or it got swallowed!) It's your call! |

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
Thanks. I think I will order a head gasket and take a look. Both halves of the throttle plate are missing but the screws are still intact.

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
Thanks. My golfing buddy lost half his plate and just replaced the carb and had no problems. My cart isn't showing any signs of smoking yet anyway.

Re: 96 Club Car Throttle Plate
You will be okay without pulling the head. They get eaten up. You can pull the spark plug and slowly turn it over and see if you hear anything.
