Default 79 Yamaha G1 won't start

Need HELP, I got a 79 Yamaha G1 that I bought last year and ran all summer at camp. Now I try to start it and nothing no noise motor wont try to start. The cart has a new key switch, stop pedal switch, new coil, new spark plug, was told it was solenoid change it out no luck, if I put a screwdriver on the solenoid terminals and push gas pedal the cart will start and run great, but will not start without doing this, NEED HELP THANKS!!

First things to check is wiring, these carts are known for wiring issues. The grounds also go bad and there is no frame ground like a car there are ground wires. So check all the battery cable connections, all the small wire connectors, fuse holders, ground wires, etc. Pain to do but cheap to fix. Just remember to check both positive and ground wire for each component.
You can use a tester to see if the small wire to the solenoid is getting powered up to activate it. If not its a wiring issue. If so then is the solenoid getting full battery power? If so solenoid is bad. There are posts here with specific tests to figure it out. The G1 uses the key to choose a forward or reverse solenoid, each one spins the engine the correct direction and uses the correct pickup on the crank for ignition, both use the same coil. Engine runs in reverse to back up. IIRC the wiring diagram is also posted here or a link to it up in the sticky posts.
