The shoes get old and crack and break, if the ramps are beat up that can break them then you need new ramps. Shoes are not expensive. The strong spring will make it run different that is the main part of the kits. There are threads about putting them on you have to ratchet strap the thing together or something, very hard to get on, recommend new nut most yamaha you have to put a spacer behind the clutch too or it breaks the snap ring.

Yeah Plowman's kit comes with the spacer, definitely have to remove the snap ring first (that's the point) or it will be too tight. Also, I found the Plowman's belt to work better with the kit than the original. Seems like the Plowman's belt is 1/4" longer? It goes on way easier. I can do it by hand. With the orig style belt I have to use the ratchet strap. Basically you wrap the nylon strap around the movable sheave (inner) and hook it onto the frame. Then you ratchet away until the sheave pulls in, don't over tighten it will crack or bend the sheave! You can then get the belt on the secondary first, then wrap it over the primary.

As far as the ramps? When I ordered the Plowman's kit, Don suggested new ones, and insisted that I buy extras.......because they break..... When I went to install.....three of them broke. Very glad I bought the extras!
