Welding is one of those skills that people don't appreciate......until they need some done. I openly admit my welding looks like an Elephant crapped on it, but it works fair enough. I'd never do it to anything that had to be pressurized though.

I hope someday I can make welds look that good. Until then I'm just gonna pay somebody when I need something to be welded.

When I went from stick to mig w/ gas I felt like I was cheating.

I only MIG weld. The first time I went to use a stick it shocked the sh1t out of me. I've never picked up a stick welder again. (and it was my own fault for grabbing that crap lead that was worn out, but it left a foul taste in my mouth...literally)
