Crazy electrical question
In a pinch, wouldn't it be possible to charge up a cart with standard battery chargers connected in series? If you had three 12v/15a chargers wired in series, you'd have a 36v/15a charger - with 4 chargers, 48v/15a.
Wouldn't this work to charge a dead buggie, when no other charger was available? Yes, I know this isn't a preferred method, just exploring the curiousity that naturally comes to me. |

Re: Crazy electrical question
How would you wire three chargers in series ? is that possible ? Would it not be easier to just use the 12v charger and charge two batteries at a time ? if you had 3 chargers you could do all six batteries with each charger connect to two batteries .
I picked up a uses battery charger that did 6v or 12v as a backup. joe |

Re: Crazy electrical question
You can connect each charger to 2 batteries. Each charger will see only the 12v between it's 2 leads... You can connect all 3 at once without disconnecting any batteries.

I use 2 36 volt ez go chargers wired in series to charge my 72 volt cart.Works great, but you have to monitor it because it will not shut off when charged.Been using this setup about a year so far.

Re: Crazy electrical question
Without some mods I fail to see this working, the charger transformer is voltage output limited. Are the chargers wired together internally and utilizing 1 charging port on the cart?

Re: Crazy electrical question
Scotty you have to jump the relay so they run when plugged in.Take the two charging cords connect the black wire on 1st charger to the white on the 2nd charger.take the white and black left and hook up to battery pack.Several people been doing this a while and works great. With on cgarger pluged in you can charge at 36 volts.
Note: Amp meter will work and show when charged but chargers will not shut off.You have to monitor them and shut them off when charged. |
