Check this site out to make sure of the year. Myself and others have been lied to as to the model.

Trojan batteries have the year stamped in the negative post and some other brands use different methods. Do a search for determining age of the batteries or go to a dealer that sell whatever is in the cart. Don't just take the sellers word!!!

See if the seller is agreeable to taking the cart to a golf cart shop with you to have it looked over if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

I've flipped about 8 golf carts the last couple years, here's my checklist when I'm checking one out:

*Check the date on the batteries for sure as stated above. Bring a voltmeter with you and check the voltage on each battery and on the pack as a whole. Pop the cap on the batteries and make sure the guy has been taking care of his batteries by adding water, if you see uncovered plates either pass or use that to negotiate the price down.
Taken from "Golf Cart Battery Comparison" sticky:
Quote:
Voltage on a fully charged battery in good condition will read 2.12 to 2.15 volts per cell (6.40 for a 6 volt)
*Grab each tire at the 10 and 2 o'clock position and give them a jerk toward and away from you, if there's a lot of play then the cart will need hubs/bearings. Look at the tires for cracks/dry rot.

*Check for rust on the frame and especially the battery box. You'll want to get on the ground and look for rust underneath on the frame and battery box again.

*You'll want to test drive it obviously. When you do, test the brakes and check the steering for excessive play or misalignment.

*After you test drive it plug in the charger make sure it kicks on

Keep in mind a set of batteries will run you $600 and up, a charger is $200 and that cart without either of those is worth about $200-$400 so negotiate accordingly.
