I've also noticed a bias against Sepex drive systems (PDS and DCS), but there shouldn't be since both Series and Sepex drives have their faults and virtues. A similar bias exists between AC and DC systems. The legacy carts had series drive systems, then sepex drives came on the scene and old dogs weren't too happy about learning new tricks. Same thing happened when AC systems appeared.

It is sorta like choosing the best type engine in a pickup, Diesel or gasoline.
Basically, it boils down to what is the pickup (or cart) going to be used for.

Unless the cart is only going to be used to haul two golfers and their clubs over groomed trails for 18 holes between charges, both Series and Sepex drive systems need to be upgraded and with the proper upgrades, either drive type can be built to do most anything.

The starting point is figuring out what the cart will be used for and then building towards that goal.

I see yurtle beat me to the explanation.

OMG - I've been yurtled.

BTW: F/R switching is done inside a sepex controller, so upgrading the F/R switch is usually not needed for PDS and DCS carts.
Also, there are fewer high current cables that need to be upgraded to 4Ga or thicker cables.

And Sepex carts make speed easier than series carts ... they are excellent neighborhood carts. The cost to 25mph is 1/3 what it is for a series cart.

With the right motor/controller combination they can be good off road carts too.

The Ezgo PDS is my favorite cart. Of the 10 different carts I have ready to go at the shop the 42v PDS is my go to ride.
