Default G16a only runs decent with choke on.

Hi guys and gals. Just got my first golf cart and I'm trying to resolve an issue with it. It will only run decent with the choke on. The guy before me replaced the car, cleaned the original, replaced the fuel pump, lines, etc. I tried cleaning the original carb and putting it back on and it does the same thing.

Any chance that the filter setup on this one is causing it? It has an UNI foam filter open to atmosphere. I have read that these carts are picky about having the air box sealed. Why is that?

I also have what appears to be a breather hose off the valve cover and I'm not sure where that would go either.

Thanks,
Frank

Yep, that filter is probably causing your problem. The carb will need a larger jet to compensate for the increase in air flow into the carb. I can't tell you which one, though.

The hose attaches to the stock air cleaner hosing.

Do you have the shroud that goes around the cylinder head? It might run hot without it.

thanks for the reply! Any idea where I can find out jetting info? I can buy a few and give the different ones a try. Or do people drill them out?

I do have the covers for the fan, just haven't put them on yet. Thanks for the heads up.

I used a torch tip cleaner to enlarge my main jet, or drilling would be fine, just go a little at a time and test so you don't over do it.

Thanks guys. I got it. drilled the main jet out with some number drills and it runs great now! Ended up at .052" if that helps anyone else.

Dont start driving it around with no shrouds, its like taking the fan off your car and driving it around, it will overheat.
