Can you run a slightly longer belt?
I was looking at my 98 CC DS and noticed that the belt was quite a ways down in the drive pulley when wide open - Is it possible to run a slightly longer belt to get a little more top end speed?

Re: Can you run a slightly longer belt?
Either your belt is to skinny, the clutch faces are seriously worn, or my best guess..... your clutch needs a weight kit and washer replaced.

Thanks, Is that bolt in the end all that holds it together? I'd like to inspect it before ordering.

I'd start out with a new drive belt... I always recommend a severe duty drive belt, it's worth the extra $$! https://www.cartpartsplus.com/tune-u...car-drive-belt And while you have the drive belt off, you might as well replace the starter/generator belt also! https://www.cartpartsplus.com/tune-u...ter-belt-97-up |

Re: Can you run a slightly longer belt?
I use a Yamaha drive belt on my 08 carry all 1 from time to time. it adds 2 mph to top end but its pretty much engaged as soon as the engine turns over. I do buy a brand new one every now and then but used ones work the best! went down to the local Yamaha dealer and asked the service guy to save all his used belts for me. I will say this... a Brand new 1 3/16" x 39" Yamaha drive belt will not last long with machined driven clutch! Machined driven clutch pushes belt too high on the drive clutch and it heats up and shreads pretty quick! I have the best luck with the used belts. 36mph. to 38 mph. just by slapping an old wore out Yammar Haw belt on!

Re: Can you run a slightly longer belt?
Is this the same length and width that would work on a late 80's ds gas?
