Backfiring G1
Just looking for some help. My g1 backfires some. Was wondering if anyone has a fix for that.

Re: Backfiring G1
First check the throttle shaft is closing all the way.

Re: Backfiring G1
My throttle linkage was missing when I got it. I have a piece of silver solder as my linkage. It's loose do you know where to buy one?

Re: Backfiring G1
The part number for that should be FU99-450. If you Google that you'll get some hits. You may want to check with some of the site sponsors as they help pay the bills around here.

Re: Backfiring G1
another thing to check is where the throttle shaft goes through the carb, when it gets worn badly it allows it to suck air around the shaft leaning out the mixture also it misaligns the throttle plate so sometimes when you let up on the pedal it doesn't close all the way.

Re: Backfiring G1
I just put a brand new carb on my 85 G1 for the very same reason of backfiring and it turned out to be the crank shaft seals were leaking creating a lean misfire... You might want to look into a leak down test.

Re: Backfiring G1
I looked up the part #. I may have said it wrong. It's not the whole linkage. Just the piece from the governor to carb (6").

Re: Backfiring G1
A leak down test won't determine if crank seals are bad

Re: Backfiring G1
I don't see that part specifically called out anywhere so it's probably not made. You may have to keep an eye out for a used one or just replace the whole thing.

Re: Backfiring G1
Umm... I think you have a compression test confused with a leakdown test... The ONLY WAY you determine a crank seal, cylinder base, head gasket, etc... is through a leakdown/pressure test. Trust me I run/manage a Power Equip. business for the last 23 years.
