And seal that split up in the intake hose. Duct tape can work for now, at least until you get it going :)

The cart is running. Split intake hose is electrical taped. Kill switches are off and insulated. Valves are adjusted. Carburetor has been thoroughly R&R'd. The battery charged. Good gasoline.

Why is there a 10-second lag between depressing the pedal and the generator running? Should it not be instantaneous?

Today is running lights and spraying of liquid fertilizer.

Many thanks and much appreciation to all for the help - in particular CP241. I have been places with this repair that I never would have thought on my own.

Glad you are up and running.

What do you mean "kill switches are off and insulated?"

The lag time you describe is usually a sign of a loose SG belt and/or weak battery.

One recommended "fix" was to remove the Rev Limiter kill switch (Brown wire in diagram) from the Gold Box in front of the engine beneath the valve cover and to insulate it. I did that.

The other "fix" was to disconnect the micro-switch in the Black Box that kills the engine when the pedal is released. It came off of the micro-switch pole already insulated.

There is NO ACTION whatsoever when the pedal is depressed in the S/G for about 10-seconds. Then, there is a creaking sound, the S/G belt rotates, and the engine fires. Perhaps it is a weak battery, and should be tested, but it has run this way for a decade, and that battery has been NEW on at least one occasion in that time.

You should reconnect that microswitch wire and replace that microswitch. Otherwise the only way I believe the engine is shutting off is by choking it off when the throttle plate closes. I'm sure this isnt good for the motor...

Yes, it should start to spin instantly. If nothing happens at all, Check the brushes in the starter/generator. Theres 4 little black rubber covers on the end near the pulley. Remove one and look at it with a flashlight.

Theres some good pics on this page of what to look for. https://www.golfcarcatalog.com/golf-...rator-brushes/

New brushes are cheap, and probably all it should need unles the commutator is damaged.

Whatever you do, dont buy an aftermarket starter/generator. Get an OEM one from david hicks at revolution. The aftermarket ones suck and you'll be lucky to get a month out of it before it eats itself alive.

Meh... put a charger on the battery and see if it turns over right away, batteries don't really last longer than 4 or 5 years anymore!

As for the black wire off of the micro in the box? I'd hook it back up,
all it will do is make your cart idle if you have the idle screw turned in a little, otherwise the key will shut it down.

are you

1-continuously pressing the pedal down (advancing it) slowly

2-tapping the pedal and holding it in one place

before the starter engages

2 - tapping the pedal to the firewall and holding it in place.

I will replace the micro-switch and the split hose. I got two hours of continue use today, spreading liquid fertilizer, and it is raining it in nicely tonight! Yes!

I will try the charger route and go with a new battery if required.

I already suffered through a generator failure in 2010, creating this link Generator 101, so brushes are a known issue for me. I will look into these too, on a day not too far removed from today, but not tomorrow. I want to wire the lights again first.

It is not perfect and there is more work to do. But, it RUNS again and I am happy for the time being with that.
