How much can a gas cart tow?
I've been checking out some ATV type implements for creating a food plot at my hunt camp. The ground needs a bit of prep before planting so I was wondering if this cart would be able to tow a UTV or ATV disc harrow? Not sure if it would bog down or what. Anyone ever tried this? My cart looks like it would do the trick but I don't know.

I pull a 20 foot boat around the property, about 32-3300 lbs. The weak point is the brakes.
This was before any drive line or brake upgrades. |

A golf cart is not designed to pull ground-engaging equipment. 3000 rolling pounds on mostly flat ground for short distances is quite different than a disk. I would not expect it to work very good or last very long.
Perhaps you could find a local guy with a garden tractor to do it cheap. |

9 I think you could do it if you worked it without a lot of weight on the disc
and worked it numerous times to work up the soil. Make long pulls at a good clip to save the drive belt. |

Re: How much can a gas cart tow?
I've done it with my cart. I used 12in disc harrows to turn over the dirt. It took a while because the ground was so hard. I started with no weight and worked it. After a little while I added a little weight at the time. I was also doing small plots, we used a tractor to do the big plots

Hmmm, I'm not doing big plots anyhow. Just some small plots to put down a couple of windrows between some pines.
I may give it a shot. I looked on craigslist after my last post for some garden tractors and found one for $250 with a 21HP Kolher engine in it. Either way, I'll be plowing some ground soon! |

Re: How much can a gas cart tow?
If you use a garden tractor make sure that's what it is and not a lawn tractor. They have different frames and gearing. Lawn tractors can't handle the use of harrows, you may twist the frame and it may not have the needed torque like the garden tractor
