You have a serial to USB cable around the house? Why would you have one unless you worked on older communication equipment, a controller?? If you go to best buy they will look at you with a deer in a headlight stare.....

I build custom computers. That is what I do other than my normal job. Also by tuner for my srt4 and srt8 both use a serial to USB cable

I have several devices in my garage that talk RS-232 and RS-485, so I kept my old laptop that has a DB9 serial connector and XP. I also have several old desktops that I keep for this and other "legacy" uses.
