Default Crankcase Seals ??

I am new to the sight and want to thank everyone for the great posts. It has been more then helpful.
I just bought a 88 Gas Ezgo. It ran for a minute then stopped. Here is the sequence of work that Ive done to date.
1) Old owner replaced the Carb, Fuel pump and Battery. He could not keep it running.
2) Compression check - 125 lbs
3) New plug
4) I have access to another running 88 Ezgo. So today thru process of elimination of checking the coil, checking reed valves, swapping carbs and fuel pumps I could keep it running by just cracking the throttle and closing the choke 85%. I assumed it was starving for fuel. The inline rule filter didnt seem to fill with fuel so I removed it and then it began to running well. The fuel filter was not plugged. After the filter was remove, and was running well I put the make shift air filter back on and it would not run. My theory is that the Crankcase seals are marginal and that little bit of restriction made the difference in starving the motor for fuel. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I also need to find the plastic spacer, not the gasket, the goes between the fuel pump and crankcase for the other 88. Any Ideas?? Thanks again

yep i bet thats what it is it's sucking alot of air through the bad seals causing a lean environment for the engine (85% choke to "help") my g1 did exactly the same thing changed them and wah-la runnin' strong again...
