2pg engine rebuilding questions
Well I just received my engine rebuild kit new crank. bearings, seals, piston and cylinder etc. I noticed that there is no gasket for between the bottom halfs of the engine and I don't know what to use? Also do you put the bearings on the crank first or press them in the case either way it seems impossible so i need some advice from all the pro's out there thanks in advance

Re: 2pg engine rebuilding questions
Welcome to BGW There is no gasket between the case halves go to your local auto parts store and look for anaerobic sealer mine is by permatex in a blue tube. You could also go to a motorcycle shop and purchase there sealer fr case halves. Must be clean and dry. As for the bearings they go on the crank first be advised there is a shim behind the bearing on one side. You may have to remove the old bearing from the old crank to retrieve it for use. I have a press so I do my own install but if you don't have a press you may want to take it to a machine shop.

Re: 2pg engine rebuilding questions
Be careful when working with ball bearings. You never want to put pressure on the balls from one race to the other. You can easily flat spot them and ruin the bearing. You want to press it on by pushing only on the proper race.

Re: 2pg engine rebuilding questions
Yea I've rebuilt alot of chain saws and other small engines I also have a press to press the bearings on the shaft when I took my engine apart I didn't notice any shims on the crankshaft and this has me worried. I am going to check my parts over again to make sure and I have to locate some anerobic sealer, I've been trying to find a parts breakdown of this engine but after many hours of searching i've given up on that thanks for the help everyone I am having so much fun with this cart

Re: 2pg engine rebuilding questions
There may or may not have been shims which were there to prevent the crankshaft from floating. There were none in my 86 (and I am sure that there were never any). The engine which now has 26 hours on it is running fine. There are however two spacers on the wrist pin in the piston, don't forget to re-install these. With regard to the mastic on the crankcase, I used a product called Mega Grey, it had the correct specs and was of course grey which made a neater job.
