My 89 Carryall is doing the same thing. Seems to be getting louder.

Is your rear end level good? Might be able to put some lucas in it to help quiet it down till you decide to change the bearing.

I put mine in service mode, cranked it and revved it up. Getting the same noise so I think it is in the clutch. I hope. Had a wad of grass covering the screen at the flywheel. Took that off and the sound is not as bad. I don't think the grass made a difference.

Could be the input shaft bearing. The bearing that goes on the clutch makes noise at idle.

Yes, that is one of the first bearings to go, 2nd is the gov. shaft bearing. Which also spins in nuetral. Take the belt off and see if the noise goes away . If it does you know it's in the tranny. Be careful with belt off, you can over rev. The belt makes the gov. work.
