Default 89 ez-go marathon

I have a 89 ez-go marathon 3pg motor ,when I got this cart the engine was in was in 3 boxes . Im having problems with the timing I put new crank, piston, jugg, seals, bearings. The manual states to run engine at 1500 rpm in forward and check with timing light, timing should be +- 3deg. Im showing like 80 deg but if I check timing in reverse it shows about 5 deg ,the manual also states if timing is correct in forward it should be correct in reverse also. Im looking for a reed cage also mine is wore out you can see light through it thanks.

There should be a line on the pulsar mounting ring. The line should line up with the center of the mounting screw.

What is the issue you are having with the motor?

Like the manual says, if the timing if correct in forward, it will be correct in reverse. Does the motor run well?
