Lot of people like the comet 780, CPP has some other ones too. You will have to run a clutch with the sheave on it like stock or put a pulley behind it, if you plan to use the gen and pedal start. Most cart clutches and replacements with the sheave are taper shaft, so you have to cut the crank and use an adapter to run those. That is why Vegas came out with the pulley so you can run any 1" straight shaft clutch without cutting the crank for the taper adapter.

So to go with the 780 comet I can't use the stock starter pully?? And if the clutch is tapered and I have to have the shaft michined to 1" why couldn't I just have the taper the shaft to the clutch?

If you have a 1" shaft lawn motor: you either get any 1" clutch and the pulley from Vegas (or another if someone has it). Or you use a stock type clutch then you have to buy a taper adapter because stock clutches are taper fit, and those will have the pulley built into the clutch, and you may have to cut the crank down because the taper is shorter. There are stock clutches and replacements.

Most people either use the stock clutch to save money, or they don't use the gen and get a 1" clutch. Vegas came out with the pulley because lot of people wanted to use the 780 but keep the gen because the clones do not charge much, they want the gen to charge. You can also use the pulley for an alternator. Lot of people use carts for trails and rather a key start like a lawnmower, some people keep the gen like me. You just have to figure out what way you want to go, if you want a new clutch, etc.

My shaft is 1 1/8 I know I have to have it milled down to 1" I'm planning on the comet clutch and would like to keep the pedle start so I'll plan on the new pulley also. Will I need to shorten the shaft? I looked but haven't yet found a big block install kit for Gx 620 is there one out there or will I have to make it all??

There used to be honda kits but I don't know who had them.

Normally you don't have to cut shaft with straight shaft clutches, only to use taper clutches (with adapter) on a straight shaft. There may be clutches for your shaft there are a few but I don't know what ones.

I found a comet 94c for 1 1/8 shaft on eBay will that work if I upgrade the driven clutch to accommodate 1 3/16 belt?

wouldn't your golf cart sound like a riding lawnmower. I know my mower the people a couple blocks away can hear it. I'm just curious how loud it would be. Rick

Only if you put a mower muffler on it.
