Can a 1992 CC with the FE290 go 20MPH?
I've found a great deal on a 1992 CC with the FE290 engine. It needs a lot of work both mechanically and cosmetically, but this could be a great summer project for my son.
I've read the stickies and some other posts of upgrades, but I'm not exactly sure what each upgrade will give me or what combination I would need to suite my goal. With stock tires, is it possible to get this '92 to go 20mph? If so, what upgrades would it take? Thanks. |

It should be able to come close to 20mph.

Mine hits 20. Also at the same time the rev limiter kicks in.
There is a forum on how to speed up. In the sticky section |

Re: Can a 1992 CC with the FE290 go 20MPH?
My '87 with the 8hp KF82 flathead (1hp less than the FE290) will go 22mph, but it's lifted with 22.5" tires on it. My thought is that if you want to have a higher top speed, lift it and put larger tires on it. The larger diameter tires will increase your top speed. You'll lose a bit of torque on the low end, but not much.
You may end up working the motor too hard to spin those tiny stock tires up to 20mph on a regular basis. But I could be wrong. |
