Default Is your air box in good shape ? / running issues

Hello All,

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on how important the air-box is on the 290 and 350 engines.. This is something I just learned myself...
Hope im not the only one.

If you are having any kind of running issues, stumbling, poor throttle response , Backfires when you shut the key off, slow or hesitation when starting, cart just not running right, not running as fast as it should,
Any of the above issues could be from a cracked or broken air-box...
I personally had no idea how important the air box is...

I had an air box that the 2 back tabs where broken and the air box cover was clamped down in the front of the box like it should be , but was loose where the tabs where broken off in back... so more or less the cover was just laying on top of the box..

As alot of you guys know I just put a new motor in my 98 carryall VI, Well its not brand new but real close.. Super Super clean and a 2013 manufacture date, So its pretty much new.. Well when I put the motor in my cart, It ran great but there was something that just wasn't right.. It ran at 16 -17 mph, had all the symptoms I mentioned above...
I just thought it should run better than it did.. So I contacted the gentleman I bought it from, And he asked how my air box was, So I explained how my air box was broken... Well a long story short, I replaced my air box with a new one and WALLA,

My cart really came to life, I just never new how these engines need that air box to be in good sealing condition.. My cart starts up as soon as I touch the key, The motor runs flawless now, It is doing 21 Mph now..
I just never knew how important the air box is...

Anyways, Hope this info helps someone,

Peace,

Ant...

I gotta say it again, I am just amazed how my cart is running now,

Would never have thought the poor performance was due to my bad air-box...

As I understand it the stock carburetors are designed for & work best with the small amount of restriction through the OE air box.
