1986 gas DS Rear end questions
Is this year a rear that's hard to find parts for or that's not as strong as let's say a 90 DS rear?
I don't know if it still has a tag to tell if it's a Kawasaki or the other style grazi or something like that, Or will someone help school me on it? I have a 99 DS that I want to big block and this was going to be my Rearend for it. When I look up gears, they post 88-96 Kawasaki Rear ends for gears change. I paid $200 for the cart and I only bought it for the rear, the rest of the cart is junk other than the rolling chassis it seems. I don't wanna do all the work to find out this rear isn't worth it. |

Re: 1986 gas DS Rear end questions
It's to my understanding that... (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...) all of the 85-96 CC gasser transaxles are Kawasaki.
Back in the day, Club Car used about 25% of Graziano transaxles in their electric carts, mostly because electric carts were more popular, and they couldn't get transaxles fast enough from Kawasaki. Since there are usually no "brand" stampings to identify them, and the paper tag almost always falls off, The easiest way to tell the difference between a Graziano or a Kawasaki transaxle is how the bolts enter at the split casing on the differential. Kawasaki casing bolts enter from the drivers side, and Graziano casing bolts enter from the passenger side. Here's a rear drivers side shot of a Kawasaki differential on a 94 gasser: (still had the paper tag on the axle tube) Steve & Cathy's Golf Car 010.jpg Hope this helps! |

The early axles, the shifter lever on the gearbox moves front/rear,Newer(87/88-up)it moves side to side. Also, from what we have seen, the older units, the upper unit interchanges,so you can swap it with an electric axle-unit.
