Default Rebuilt 295cc Robin Overheating

Last winter I rebuilt a 295cc Robin in a 1992 EZGO for a friend. He bought the cart and after a couple trips to the course the float sank and filled the crankcase with gas. After draining and replacing the gas/oil it would overheat pretty quickly after starting. I rebuilt the motor carefully going through all the instruction, mic'ing everything and using assembly grease. Although it hasn't been run much this summer it has done just fine until last couple times out. It starts getting a little hot and backfiring when going down a big hill. Any suggestions on what might be going on? Runs great before it starts heating up. Thank you.

Are you certain that its overheating? The backfiring can also be caused by various other things including a fouled plug, rich carb, incorrect linkage adjustments, etc. If it is indeed overheating, just ensure the fan is in good shape and the cooling fins are free of debris. The shroud must also be attached and clean to promote good airflow around the cooling
fins. Thats pretty much the extent of your cooling system.
