86 2cycle wiring
Is there supposed to be a wire from the solenoid to a lug on the f-n-r selector? If someone could post a pic, that would be a great help. I tried following a schematic, but my wires don't seem to be routed that way. Thanks in advance.

Re: 86 2cycle wiring
There are two small terminals on the solenoid.
One terminal will connect to a microswitch, the other goes to ground. The large bottom lug on the FnR switch is used as ground. If it's the normal setup, the small terminal on the passenger side of the solenoid, is the one that goes to ground. The 86 may be a transition year. The 85 carts only had one microswitch on the FnR switch. It's for the backup buzzer, and is located on the driver's side of the FnR switch. The 87 carts had a second microswitch on the passenger side of the FnR switch. It's called a neutral safety switch. I don't know which way the 86 carts go, so look at yours, and let us know if you have that second switch. |

Re: 86 2cycle wiring
Thank you, but I wasn't explicit enough. The hot cable from the battery goes to one side of the solenoid, there should be a cable from the other large terminal to the FnR switch I believe. There is just a small wire to the regulator from the second large terminal.

The second large terminal connects to F2 on the starter.

Re: 86 2cycle wiring
Can someone tell me what exactly the neutral limit switch does? Also where is it located. I have this same model with the one switch for the reverse buzzer and a second switch that is just dangling. I am 90% sure this is the neutral limit switch but I'm not entirely sure what it does or where is supposed to be mounted.

Re: 86 2cycle wiring
It should be mounted on the lower passenger side of the FnR switch.
It is connected in series with the key, and pedal switches. You really don't need it. The purpose is to prevent the solenoid from activating before the FnR switch is making full contact. I guess it would prevent those big lugs from arcing if the switch was only moved part way. It was not part of the earlier design. It is identical to the other two microswitches. If your pedal switch ever goes bad, you could keep it as a spare. |
