If it's been sitting get rid of the old fuel before you try anything. Of course, add your 2 cycle if that's what it is.

Oh I was counting on that. I went and ripped a plastic fuel tank out of one of the many junk riding mowers on the hill and we are going to try gravity feed straight to the carb to see if I can get it and keep it running. Prior to it starting on starter fluid it turned over like you would expect then once it popped off once it sounded like it was knocking. Could that be the bottom end or piston slap?
