The engine does have a PCV valve. If the engine would only start with the hose disconnected, you must have a blocked filter or inlet at the carb. the PCV valve should not stop the engine from running for a good while. you can remove and check the valve for blockage if you like, as it may prevent the fuel pump from operating. to test, reconnect the hose from air filter box to PCV valve and pull the fuel line from the pump outlet and direct it into a cup or something. Crank the engine and you should see a strong continuous pulse of fuel coming out of the hose. If not, check for a pulse of air from the PCV hose connected from PCV to fuel pump.. If no pulse of air, blow out the line from the engine to the pump and try again. If you have a good pulse from the engine but no or little fuel, there is a tiny air filter (brass colored) on the side of the pump. This may need claning out as if blocked it will not allow the pump diaphragm to fluctuate and pump fuel.

let us know what you find and we can advise further.

Also better descriptions of the problem will help us help you. I may have totally misunderstood your question and given you bad advise. I have assumed the PCV hose was the broken one, but if it was some other hose broken, i have possibly given you bad info.

Also pictures of the suspect items etc would be good.

Go to the TECH section and download the engine manual.
