Default 1987 basket case wiring

Hey guys. I picked up a 1987 2pg a few weeks ago that "only needed a new ignition switch". Well, come to find out it has been hotwired and trys to start when you put in fwd/reverse with no key or gas pedal pressed. I found the diagrams and tried to re-wire everything, but I don't know what all the parts are. It seems that the diagram has more wires than I have, and is missing some parts that are in my engine bay. Can someone give me the name for the two parts under the solenoid? Also, the other pic is the diagram that I'm using.

Try clicking the "go advanced" button below the text box. Delete your pictures and use the paper clip icon above where you type to attach the pictures. These are too large to really make out what we're looking at easily.

That's not the right diagram. I will have one for you when I get out of bed.

The 88 wiring is the same as the 87. Look at post 22. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...trouble-3.html

The small square box directly under the solenoid is the igniter. The bigger shiny box is the voltage regulator. You will notice that it has three terminals. The diagram you were trying to use has four terminals because it is pre 1980 with an internal starter.

I got everything hooked up, but my ignitor has a black wire coming off of it, not a red. Does that go the voltage regulator instead?

Connect to D- of the regulator. It's just another way of getting to ground. You will see another wire on the same regulator post that runs to the solenoid ground.

The wire on my 87 is also black, but it's not connected to anything because I did the HEI mod.
