Default Neutral "gear" on a 1990 EZGO gas cart ??

Is there such a thing as a way have a neutral gear position on a 1990 EZGO 3PG gas cart??
Like for towing or pushing the cart ?.
Mine seems to be very hard to push or tow .

There is no neutral. The 3pg runs in both directions. Your forward/reverse switch is an actual electrical switch to change direction of the starter.

The belt should be loose enough to slip for pushing. The only other thing you can do is to remove the belt.

Neutral is what you have when you slip.off the belt.

In my experiences, you ain't rolling that pig with the belt still installed :)

Did the later 4 stroke models have a neutral? Neighbor seems to have one.

Technically, no. I don't believe ezgo's ever had a "neutral". But if you put the shifter in the 12 o'clock position in between forward and reverse, then yes it's in neutral and will roll freely. Gotta be careful if troubleshooting something with the engine in neutral though, if you bump the shifter into gear then bad things can happen.

The only carts I've ever seen with a designated (and detented) Neutral position are club cars.

The reason you can't do the same as your neighbor with the 4 stroke is because your 2 stroke does not operate in the same manner. The 4 stroke has a transmission in the rear end to shift between forward and reverse rotation. Your 2 stroke does not have that. It's just basically a pinion and a ring gear. Instead, your cart achieves reverse by running the engine backwards. Some (not all, but some) 2 stroke engines will run with the crankshaft spinning forwards or backwards. The robins engine is one of those.

Thats what we do with our 4 stroke 295. obviously have to be careful not to bump it but it will usually stay at the 12 o clock position when needed

Yes, most do but there are a few that showed up that didn't.
If yours has it then it should be a neutral lockout on the plate behind the shift knob or back on the differential where the shift cable connects. Cheers

You dont state which model you have, but removing the drive belt will allow the driven clutch to spin freely, so it should be fine.

Unless of course you are in the wrong section and have an electric cart

Thanks Cartmaster.
I recently bought this EZGO gas cart w/ 1 cyl Kawasaki engine.
The ID plate says Workhorse G2800. Armed with that info, my local golf cart dealer, 3 times he gave me wrong tuneup parts before i got it running.
Reluctantly I must admit I recently got it stuck in the mud. I will find out today how easy or hard it is to remove the drive belt.
