Question about Taylor Dunn B-248 accelerator assembly
Hello all,
I am new to electric carts and all this in general. I recently picked up a Taylor Dunn B-248 used, 48v and 4 wheel brakes, with what appears to be a (factory?) slide out battery tray. It was left sitting for some time half disassembled, with the dash popped out and a number of wires disconnected, same on control setup (sevcon controller). I have downloaded the manual for my serial and have been gathering up all the parts numbers for what I need, as well as the various prices for these online. I have been reading posts around here for these vehicles, and an electrician friend of mine who worked with electric rides in the mines a lot is helping, but I still have a few questions: Main one being - what is the actual setup for the accelerator? I cant find it in the manual, the module I can find online, but does it need a bracket, and what about the parts for the actual pedal? The entire setup is missing on mine, I just have the cable hanging by it The motor looks rough, but we were doing the resistance tests yesterday according to the manual and it seems usable, just needs to be cleaned up, but I have seen mention of other make replacements? Are these just drop in? How does the changing performance work out with the controller, can it actually make use of it without some sort of reprogramming? Tires - this has solid but not hard rubber tires. Are there any almost tractor tire like, foam filled tires available for these? I really like the lack of flat tires but want some good tread and lighter weight. Charging - the battery tray has a quick disconnecting plug to allow removing it, as well as some type of black charge port. The original cable between the seats just acts as an extension cord to the center of the bed area, presumably for a machine that used to be there. Anyone know what type of charge port this is? |

Re: Question about Taylor Dunn B-248 accelerator assembly
Depending on year, they used a variety of different systems to control the cars.
Call Taylor dunn and give them your vin- they will have a build sheet for that very car, right down to the last nut and bolt. |

Taylor Dunn website has parts breakdowns, and wire diagrams that you can print out.

Re: Question about Taylor Dunn B-248 accelerator assembly
I like these carts, they are pretty cool.
That was 48V? That charge port on golf carts is normally for 36V operation. If you have 48V that may mean that someone went through the effort to convert it. Was it six 8v batteries or eight 6v batteries? If it was six 8v batteries then it was probably a conversion? It's good if someone converted it as you'll have an upgraded controller and solenoid already. For lighter weight tires you can get regular air filled tires and rims. Measure your bolt pattern. My buddy has a Taylor Dunn and put regular air tires on it. Just make sure they can handle the weight of that cart and the batteries and load you intend to put on it. There is a load rating plate on it somewhere. For my buddies cart we ended up making an 11S3P lithium battery pack for him. He still uses the factory charger and it charges his pack to 42V then cuts off. The higher V hasn't caused him an issue in the last 3 years he's run lithium, he gets 2 (maybe 2.5) more mph which doesn't sound like much but going from 11 to 13 is a welcome change. Plus the cart weighs a LOT less so it accelerates much better. Just food for thought... :) |
