Spark Plug on Kawasaki Engine - BPR2ES or BPR5ES
The Owner's Manual for the RXV, (page 49) tells me to use a NGK BPR2ES spark plug.
The Kawasaki FJ400D Service Manual says to use a NGK BPR5ES. Which one is the "right one" or does it really not matter. Currently I'm running a BPR2ES without issue but I wonder why there is a disparity in the plug between the two manuals? |

Re: Spark Plug on Kawasaki Engine - BPR2ES or BPR5ES
Same plug, the 2 is just hotter than the 5. May have something the way ezgo tunes the carb and engine since it doesn’t idle? That’s totally just a guess.
Just check the color. The used plug should be a nice tan color. If it’s white and seems a bit lean, use the 5. If the 5 is too dark use a 2. |

CP241, that explanation makes sense. I will order a new BPR2ES for my next change.

Re: Spark Plug on Kawasaki Engine - BPR2ES or BPR5ES
I had a Champion RN14YC in my golf cart instead of the BP5es. I don't knw how they got switched as the manual calls for BP2ES, I was having an issue of pressing the pedal and getting a small poof sound, the I would have to feather the pedal some and it would start. Pulled that plug today and put a fresh 2ES in and it ran perfectly all day in the 100 degree heat of Texas with two 250 pounders seated, plus staff bags. The Champion plug was beginning to foul as it looked a bit dark at the tip. Just thought I would share.

Champion plugs suck.
Only 2 brands I run in anything I own are NGK or Denso. |

Re: Spark Plug on Kawasaki Engine - BPR2ES or BPR5ES
I got a 5ES in a tune up kit off of Amazon and didn't notice it the year before last. Plug, fuel and Air filter, oil, filter lube every March, oil and filter change September. Anyway that's when I started having small issues. The auto parts store gave me the Champion plug. Wont do that again.
