Re: G1 Yamaha won’t start
Update: I believe this cheap compression gauge I got is probably giving me a low reading. It’s around 95-97 psi now. I squirted a little mixed gas into the cylinder (through spark plug hole) and the engine cranked for a quick second. So now I’m trying to figure out if it’s the carb or reed valve that’s the problem.
I know my reed valves aren’t in the best shape, but the pedal to cage gaps are only slight. Seems like it should still work to me. There is what looks like some sort of blue sealant around the perimeter of the base of the assembly (just below pedal screws). I can take pics of the reed valves if y’all think it may be the issue. In the meantime I’m going to look at this carb again as that’s what I’m thinking. Since I’m getting fuel coming out of the fuel pump I’m thinking the carb is all it could be.? Is that what y’all would think? |

Re: G1 Yamaha won’t start
Never mind. It was the carb. Cleaned it for the 3rd time and she is up and running. Smoking where the exhaust connects to motor, but other than that it seems fairly good. Thanks for all the help guys.

Re: G1 Yamaha won’t start
Running good other than…
1. If I press accelerator too fast from a stop, the motor dies. I have to feather it up to high speeds. 2. If I’m cruising moderately and then press pedal to full throttle it also dies. Could this be carb adjustments needed? Bad reed valves? |

FYI- I have purchased two carburetors on eBay from “Procompany”, and both have worked well. One was for a riding lawnmower, and the other for my G1. Each was less than $20. |

If you think you need them.
You can get reed valves from Don Plowman. https://www.plowmanscarts.com/carts....1608324373&v=2 ,...... |

Re: G1 Yamaha won’t start
Okay thanks for the info, I may have to go ahead and order a new carb. And then reeds after that.

Re: G1 Yamaha won’t start
I’ll look into the blaster reeds, thanks for the info. Still starts and runs great other than the dying when pressing throttle too hard.
