Does the reverse buzzer work correctly? I mention this as mine slipped off the cam and got chewed up causing the action to become difficult.

Disconnect the cable from the transaxle and if it still shifts with difficultly you need to replace the cable.
If it becomes easy you might check the lube level in the rear.

Oops - Belay that last one RE the cable to the transaxle (the 80's 2PG "shifter" only controls the direction of engine rotation and polarity, and the only cables coming off it are electrical to the generator and battery) ...

Mine was a little crunchy, and I really didn't want to disassemble it so I sprayed it out real good with electrical contact cleaner while working it back and forth, then sprayed it with some "fader lube" (which is a lubricant designed for the faders on sound mixers, etc) and it's a lot better - I would imagine almost any electronic/electrical lubrication spray would work and be a lot cheaper than $24 a can for the Prosound spray (provided the contacts are a little crusty and that's where the resistance is coming from)

Thanks guys, I'll lube it up and see what happens. The clutch I rebuilt with jb weld and head gasket material is still working like new yet with two tanks of gas used since I fixed it
