Default Possibly wrong batteries in cart.

I just got a club car sn A9615-494327. Someone else worked extensively on this cart before me. I got it running, reset computer, but charger maxes out over 20 amps and bounces until blowing 15 amp breaker in charger. Charger says 48 volt on cover, but cart has 6 volt batteries. Did this cart have 8 volt batts and previous owner replaced with 6 volt? If so, I assume the computer woud not work for 36 volt system even if I got correct charger for batt pack? I know llittle about elec. carts.

Welcome to BGW!
CC never put a computer in the 36v carts. The charger port on a 48v cart is round with 3 pin connector. the 36v cart had a rectangle plug with a 2 blade connector.... sounds like you have the wrong batteries...

Thanks for your response. This is a great site and I'm glad I found it. The previous owner swears that the old batteries were 6 volt Trojans and it worked fine before. He said it worked fine with new batts until chlorinated water was put in. Batteries are mishaped from I assume overcharging. Is it possible it ever worked before with 6 volt batts? What are my options now? Can I just get a 36 volt charger and bypass computer, or am I better off adding 2 more 6 volt batts which I already have? I don't have access to any 8volt batts without buying new ones and wonder if cart is worth it. I've worked on a lot of gas carts but just learning about electric.

Forgot to say that the cart charger port is round with 3 pin connection and does have on board computer, so it is clearly a 48 volt system with 6 6 volt batts.

You could try adding 2 more batteries but the cell count is off for the charger computer.... It might work, I really dunno. but if that's what you got it's worth a shot... the worst that could happen is the batteries die.

Just curious as to why the cell count would be off by adding 2 more batteries? To me, adding 2 more batteries would make the cell count right.
