Default faster backwards then forwards

Was playing with my new toy, 99 gas workhorse. While I wouldn't complain about forward speed, I tried it backwards and it would go much faster.

Is this normal? I have a hard time believing the whole thing is set up backwards, but then I'm new to this cart stuff and what some people may be able to do.

I dont know how that is possible, because your having a four stroke engine.
I think it looks like faster because of the tricky steering.....
So as far as i know impossible.

Overhere in the Netherlands we had backwardsraces with cars.
The Daf 55, Daf 66, Volvo 66 and 343 had the same variomatic like your golfcarts, the latest types had two of them.
Maybe there are some vids at Youtube...(Dafjes, achteruit rijden)

Maybe it's just feeling like it's going faster because I'm going backwards. I sat on my driveway, I'm in the country so my drive is 500 feet long. I went forward down the drive, stopped, and then backed up. Sure felt faster. Or maybe it just picked up speed faster going backwards and left me with the impression I was going faster.

Will the cart usually pick up speed faster going backwards then forwards?

I should add they put on new belts when I got this cart the other day, so do new belts have anything to do with this?

I think the carts are actually geared lower in reverse than forwards so they pick up speed much faster but actually go considerably slower.

That would make sense. It seemed like it picked up speed faster going backwards. But as far as being much slower, it's definitely just as fast going backwards.

Could I have a problem with my clutch?

I haven't owned this thing long enough to know if it's driving correctly. By that I mean is it really going as fast as it can, and does it have the proper pickup when you step on the gas.
