Yamaha G1 Governor problems
The governor on my G1 is not working correctly. When I step on the gas pedal the engine accelerates and then the governor brings the engine down to idle speed even though the gas pedal is still depressed. If I push the governor with my hand the engine stays running and the governor pushes against my hand but the minute I take my hand from the governor it moves and the engine returns to idle speed even thought the gas pedal is still depressed. Can I remove the governor or disconnect it somehow?

Re: Yamaha G1 Governor problems
You can bypass the governor, but doing this will allow you to "over rev" the engine if you aren't careful. Be advised that if you over rev your engine it can be destroyed.
With that being said, at the top of the Yamaha section there is a "sticky" about modifying governors. Read that first. If you look at your governor lever on the transaxle, you will see that the shaft that attaches to the lever is shaped like the letter "D". The hole in the lever is also shaped like "D". If you remove the lever, drill out the flat spot on the lever, and reinstall the lever, you will effectively have bypassed the governor. |
