Better get to it then!! And, that works as well. But I just tap it out gently with a chisel. Never occurs to me to use vise grips! Dang!! Plowman talks about an "over drive" on his latest clutches. Wonder what he does!?

I'm working on my stock clutches, since the thing is about dead anyway. I ground the inside so it closes more, I hope the weights are still effective there. That would push the belt out the top of the primary for a higher top gear. I will have to make sure the secondary will open enough or move the engine so it can let the belt up there. It didn't work but after investigating more I found a ridge at the top of my sheave because it is so worn. Filed part of it off but will have to work on it more. Also going to drill the weights a little more and see if rpm go up. Plan on machining the secondary too like the ones you buy, so it pushes the belt out the top for a lower 'low gear'. Have one on the other stock clone before I put the clone in, it works really nice. But I did put the HD kevlar belt on mine and its actually a little wider and that helps it push out the top of my secondary a little, so getting half the benefit of that now....but I will keep playing with it. Working OT lately can't get out to mess with it. The yamaha G9/2 is a 0.9:1 overdrive stock. People used to put that salisbury clutch on and go faster, because it was like 8" diameter and gave you more OD. A sled will go 0-100mph on cvt, not sure why carts are so limited but the secondary is smaller on a cart.

I've tapped many keys out, but the vice grips work really nice (if its not in there super hard) in that the key does not go flying like it always does lol!

Ya, if you could just get half inch more diameter on the primary! But that may require more on the secondary as well!?? Interesting??!!

Sleds have a lot more hp, and I would not want a cart that went 100 mph.

The 2 strokes I ran would shift at 7-8K rpm, sure that gives more speed but they still would go 5-10mph no problem and not slipping the belt. Maybe doing only 4-5K rpm at that low speed though. WOT they would sit at redline from ~10mph on up. So at half the rpm they would still go 50mph is my point, if a GC were geared the same and same cvt.

I think 40mph is a good max for the cart, and not so much to go 40 but so I could go 30 without it screaming.

Right if the belt goes higher on the primary it needs to go lower on the secondary, or adjust the clutch centers so it can run far as it can shift.

Might just be pointing out the obvious, or might have missed it mentioned, but did the Key get stuck in the sheave??

I looked everywhere for the key, even the sheave. Its just not anywhere. It really puzzles me. From what everyone has been saying It sounds like it should have been really snug in the slot, I just cant believe it just fell out.

oh well, guess I will just get a new one for when I order my plowmans kit.

If you didn't have the nut on loosly, to stop the outside sheave from flying off, then the inner sheave probably knocked the key out when it flew toward the end of the shaft.
