Re: How do you get the shifter off
Yes, behind the shifter knob is a wire piece that looks like the attached. Pry it off TOWARDS YOU. Once it cuts loose it ill want to fly and probly land at the bottom of the deapest crack in your garage floor.
There is a small set screw in the shaft of the choke knob, un-screw it and the choke knob will come off. |

Re: How do you get the shifter off
Its' not stupid,if you don't know! The choke-knob is part of the cable, you have to unhook the cable from the engine and brackets, remove the nut on the backside of the body where the cable comes thru, then pull the whole assy.out.The shifter has a spring-clip,If you look carefully between the body and handle, there is a slot with a wire-clip.A small screw-driver,or a Door-Panel tool will pop it off(watch it,they sprout wings and fly when they release!!).The clip is just like GM used on Window-Cranks forever.Hope this helps.

Re: How do you get the shifter off
The handle will probably need the spring clip when you put it back on.
And there are no stupid questions, thats how you learn!! |
