G11 runs but needs choke to move
So I have a used G11 that when I push down the gas the engine runs but doesn't have enough power to move unless I pull the choke. I have cleaned the carb and fuel pump and it is better but still not running great. After it warms up it will usually run with no choke but I would like to fix it so I don't need it everytime I go up a hill or start cold. First cart so any help is appreciated.

Have you drained the old fuel and checked the compression?

Here is a link to a compression gauge. You might borrow one or you can buy a decent one for about $30 or less

Re: G11 runs but needs choke to move
Ok, went out and got a compression tester. Was at 60, then decided not to trust the previous owner and changed the oil and put a few drops in the spark plug hole. Now compression is about 80. My understanding is that is still low. What do I check next?

Re: G11 runs but needs choke to move
Not sure what motor you have, I think a 2 stroke should be 110 to 130 PSI and guess a 4 stroke should be closer to 180 but am not sure. You should test when the motor is warm with the choke and throttle full open to get a true reading. If your compression is way below spec you probably need a top end kit. I recently worked with Don at Plowmans and he can help you with your questions and set you up with parts and instructions. Give him a call after you get a good compression reading.

This is a good point some people don't know. |
