Default Can any onle help?

drives along then locks up, turn the pulley by hand to free then will fire up for a short distance and lock up again. Here is what I have done to this point. Seamed like my generator was the problem took the belt off and hit the pedal for a while pully spins freely. Then I thought the clutch so I was able to drive it with seat off and watched the clutch, it appears to be working ok I saw it move in and out but I am not sure how much it should be moving. I thought it could be the motor locking up checked the oil smelled like a little gas but defiantly old oil so I changed the oil and it still does the same. any one have some thoughts?
thanks

What year is that? I assume it's a 4 cycle because it has crankcase oil.
When it locks up, is the starter/generator really hot? When it locks remove a plug and see what color it is....

edit: better yet, pull a plug out and let us know what it looks like. The more you lock it up the more damage is caused. The starter could have a bearing that is bad and locks when it gets hot. Your brakes could be out of adjustment and lock when hot but, the motor would start in neutral. Usually there should be a noise or warning... does it start slowing down? Does it make a whining noise?

Its just good forum etiquette to only have one thread for the same question.

It is ******** to have 2 or 3 threads of the same problem like we can't see the one and a silver bullet is going to be delivered to the next thread?

Thanks for replying. "91" yes the startes does get hot, I did disconect the belt and it turned fine but then again it wasnt under a load. I'll pull the plug this weekend and look at it. It does make a clanging noise then starts slowing and eventualy stops. The more I think about it I would lean towards clutch....you agree?
