Most people go Big post to big post. Make sure you put it in tow mode before making any connections. Then after you make the connection put it back in run mode and test.

Since you heard the solenoid click....There is the chance your accelerator rod/linkage/throttle sensor assy has let go. If you take your floor mat and fold it over to the passanger side , you'll find a panel to the brake and accelerator pedal assy. Is the rod attatched ? Take the 2 screws off the box that covers the throttle sensor, Is it still atatched and actuating ? Roady has given you very good advice.....and I'm impressed you'd want to diagnoss this problem by your self, but you could take it to your local Yamaha dealer and they could "read" the computer for faults.
