Which oil to use and ratio?
Found myself out of the pre-mix I have been using but I have lots of oil for outboards. I have Yamalube, Quicksilver and some SeaDoo synthetic (see pic). I also have some Opti-2 I use in my weed eater and blower. Which would you all suggest and what ratio? Or should I go get something else? My cart is a 1981 EZGo with the 244 Robin. Thanks, Kevin

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
As for ratio, 128:1 (1 oz per gallon). Oil should be something high quality, I hear a lot of good about Yamalube and I'm sure the Sea Doo stuff is good too. I personally have used the same Stihl Ultra HP synthetic that I run in all my Stihl stuff, just mixed at the correct ratio.

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
The Yamalube I have is also for outboards (not the motorcycle oil I dont think). I bought some no name Ace Hardware 2cycle oil that mentioned "for use in all air cooled engines" and used it. I would rather use name brands and want to use the SeaDoo oil up.
Is there a difference with air vs water cooled oil types? Thanks, Kevin |

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
Make sure it says(pre-mix),since some are oil-injection only,and wont mix or lube properly.I used Havoline when I still had my 2-stroke.Mix it 128:1 stock(1oz.per gal.),or 100:1for offroad,heavy duty use(1-1/2oz.per gal.).Hope this helps.

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
Thanks for that tip. The label says for direct, semi-direct and carbureted engines so it should work.
I have a hard time with 100:1, I guess I am use to boat ratios. I learned here that too much oil stops up mufflers but am interested in getting as much life out of this engine as possible. Would a worn out engine last longer running with more oil like 75:1? |

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
I ran 100:1 for 4-years on a cart that was beat to death everytime i was riding it,and never had an issue. The motor is sitting on a pallet, awaiting a future project, since i went big block.Remember that even wide-open,they still turn well under 5000 rpm, unlike a boat,dirt-bike,etc...Any heavier than 100:1 is just a waste of oil,and likely it will clog the muffler too.

Re: Which oil to use and ratio?
Thanks again. I will go to 100:1. Kevin
